SportsVis
The game within the game: watch synthetic racing, football and boxing, change the strategy, then query the recorded evidence.
What it does
A live sports laboratory where fictional competitors act autonomously. Watch from above, open the professional desk and make a strategic change without stopping the action. A read-only SQL studio exposes the same simulation state, and an engineering handbook explains the models and their limits. The demo runs locally on the owner’s machine.
- Watch a shared autonomous sports session
- Open the professional desk and select a participant
- Apply a legal strategy change and observe its consequences
- Inspect the recorded samples in a read-only SQL workbench
- Read the engineering handbook and its disclosed limits
Synthetic models are deliberately simplified; local operation is verified separately from public hosting.
How it works
A React and TypeScript interface renders interpolated top-down views from a fixed-step Python service. Each sport owns a relational SQLite schema, populated from actual engine state rather than disconnected dashboard values. Public queries run in isolated workers with read-only connections, an SQLite authorizer, deadlines and result caps. A pooled storage policy reclaims completed histories and pauses recording near its limit. Source-controlled documentation includes a generated schema reference. Estate integration registers service lifecycle and source-grounded knowledge candidates.
Skills shown
- Databases & SQL
- A relational SQLite schema per sport, populated from the live engine state.
- DevOps & CI/CD
- GitHub Actions CI runs its contract and documentation checks.
- Security
- Public SQL runs in isolated workers with read-only connections, an SQLite authorizer, deadlines and result caps.
- APIs & backend
- A fixed-step Python simulation service behind the interface.
- Real-time & streaming
- Interpolated live views of a continuously running simulation.
- Frontend, 3D & graphics
- React and TypeScript views with a CodeMirror SQL studio.
Worth knowing
- Fan and professional modes share one session; analysis occupies reserved space beside or beneath the stage.
- Tyres and pit calls, football formations and substitutions, and between-round boxing advice affect the models.
- Cross-sport read-only queries return real recorded samples; unsafe SQL is rejected at the database boundary.
- The handbook discloses approximations. Recorded captures show the actual application.
